Bhatt’s political career has seen a meteoric rise ever since she was made the deputy mayor in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) in 2014. Within a couple of months of being made the deputy mayor she was picked up to contest the Vadodara Lok Sabha bypolls after Prime Minister Narendra Modi vacated the seat. Even at that stage Bhatt had benefited from the schisms in the party that had lobbied heavily for the ticket.
Bhatt, who was a committed BJP worker, had made her electoral debut as a rebel. She contested as an independent on not being given a ticket by the BJP in the civic polls in 2000 and won the polls. Bhatt later supported the BJP that did not have a clear majority in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) after the polls and remained in the standing committee for five years.
