Iconic flag mast to be 67 metres high | Vadodara News
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will be further increasing the height of the Flag Mast with the Tricolour that it has planned at Sama pond in the city. The civic body had earlier planned to have a 61meter high flag mast, but is not planning to erect 67meter high flag mast at the proposed flag park.
The flag park at Sama pond will be having flags of all the countries in the world. The highlight will be the highest flag mast in the state on which a Tricolour will be unfurled. The civic body is eyeing to have the mast in place by Independence Day on August 15. The state-level celebrations on this day will be held in the city.
Sources in the civic body said that there was a possibility of obtaining permission for a higher flag mast at the site. VMC has already got a nod from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for a flag mast with a height of 49.96 meters at the site. It had subsequently decided to increase the height to 61 meters and, according to a proposal put before the standing committee of the civic body, discussions with senior AAI officials at Delhi had revealed that a no objection certificate (NOC) could be obtained for a higher flag mast.
Officials said that the cost of the higher flag mast would be only marginally higher than the 61meter flag mast, but with this the city would also have the highest flag mast in the state.
Earlier, the record for the highest flag mast in the state would have been in a disputable condition as a flag mast at Mundra port in Kutch was 61 meters high. The one proposed at Vadodara would have been higher only if the pedestal on which it was erected was included. Now, even without the pedestal, the mast itself would be higher than the one at Mundra.
